Frequently Asked Questions

What cloud storage services does Pync support?
Pync supports any S3-compatible storage: Backblaze B2, Cloudflare R2, Amazon S3, Wasabi, and DigitalOcean Spaces. If your provider exposes an S3-compatible endpoint, Pync can connect to it.
Does Pync upload photos over mobile data?
No. Pync only runs automatic sync over Wi-Fi to avoid unexpected data charges. You can trigger a manual sync on any connection.
Does Pync store my credentials or photos on its servers?
No. Pync uploads directly from your phone to your own storage bucket. Credentials are stored locally in Android's encrypted Keystore and never leave your device.
Is Pync free?
Pync is free to download and includes core backup features: one sync folder, manual sync on demand, and sync logs. Pync Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks automatic scheduling, unlimited folders, background automation, and more - no subscription, ever. You also pay only for your own cloud storage, starting from $0.006 per GB/month on Backblaze B2.
How is Pync different from Google Photos?
With Pync, your photos go to a storage bucket you own and control. There is no AI scanning, no algorithmic compression, no account lock-in, and no subscription required.
Does Pync work after a phone reboot?
Yes. Pync uses Android WorkManager which survives device reboots and re-schedules automatic sync without requiring you to re-open the app.
Is it safe to let Pync delete local photos automatically?
Yes. Before a photo is ever considered for removal, Pync runs three independent checks: (1) the local database must confirm the file was successfully backed up, (2) a live request to your cloud storage must confirm the file physically exists there, and (3) the file's SHA-256 fingerprint must match what was uploaded - byte for byte. All three must pass. If your connection is down or any check fails, the photo is left untouched. Your photos are only deleted after you personally approve a system prompt from Android - Pync cannot remove them silently in the background.
